30-HOUR FAMINE FEB. 25-26

This month, our youth will participate in the 30-Hour Famine to raise funds to benefit UMCOR. The 30-Hour Famine is a nationwide "hunger-athon" event, during which we go for thirty hours without food, to gain an understanding of what it feels like to be hungry. We will begin our fast Friday night, and meet at the church at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, to spend the day together in study, service projects, and fellowship. After a sleepover at the church Saturday night, we will break our fast together Sunday morning before church. Money is generated from fund raisers held during February and that weekend, and will be donated to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), to help fight hunger on a global scale. Permission slips and informational flyers will be available on the table in the narthex  and here. If you have any questions, please see Youth Pastor Connie Alfaro (323-1938).

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING VI SCORES!

Memorial UMC's "Souper Bowl of Caring VI" on Sunday Feb. 5 was a huge success! Here's how it worked: First, during the worship service, there was a pep talk to stir up support about the Souper Bowl. As church members left worship service that Sunday, youth group members were waiting at the back of the church in football uniforms with soup pots to accept their donations. A total of $328.23 was collected! Every dollar collected that day is going directly to the local charity we care most about, Poverello House. We want to thank our church family for their continued support of this important mission. You guys are awesome!

How did the Souper Bowl of Caring get started, you ask? It's an idea started in 1990 by a church youth group in South Carolina, when they challenged their congregation to donate $1.00 each on Super Bowl Sunday to give to the needy in their local area. The movement is now nationwide, and to date has raised over $28 million! It is amazing what young people can do when they work together and with God! To learn more about this fun fundraiser, check them out on their web site at www.souperbowl.org.

Youth Poverello House Work Day

The first Saturday of every month, our youth group volunteers at Poverello House in downtown Fresno. We help serve breakfast, make sandwiches, repackage snacks, and pack the 500+ lunches that Poverello House will distribute that day. The time spent together helping other people really brings us closer together, and it lets us get a clear picture of the needs of many families in the Valley. We would love it if you could join us! We meet at the church on that first-of-the-month Saturday morning at 8 am, leave at 8:15 am promptly, and return by 11 am. If you have any questions, please call Youth Worker Connie Alfaro

Note: Any needed permission and policy slips will be required one week before each activity. Click HERE for permission slip.  For details, please email , or leave a message for Connie at the church office.
