Mr.Horwitz   Schedule

   Mr. Horwitz is a member of the Roosevelt High School Social Studies Department. He has taught for 27 years,
   15 years at Roosevelt. He was born in Reading, England but raised in Salinas, California. He is a graduate of the
   University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent 3 years in the US Army. He was stationed for a year and a half
   in Germany. Upon separation from the Army, he attended Cal State Hayward to obtain his teaching credential. He
   was employed by Castro Valley Unified for 12 years before moving to Fresno in 1984.

 Class Rules and Policies


1.  Listen to all directions before asking questions. 
2.  Be seated, quiet & prepared at the very beginning of class. 
3.  No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom. 
4.  No sleeping or cosmetic repairs in  class. 
5.  When a student is late to class, it is the students responsibility to ask the teacher to change the absence to a tardy.
6.  The class is dismissed by the teacher and not the clock.
7.  No teasing, profanity or leaving your seat without teachers permission. 
8.  Making up missed work, including tests, is the students' responsibility. 
9.  Hall Passes are for emergency use only. 
10.  No students will be dismissed from class until all books and materials are returned to their proper place.
11. When through with a computer, turn off any programs that are used, and push your chair in towards the table.
12. Any student misusing or abusing a computer will lose computer privileges.
13. All students must sign and have their parents sign an internet permission form. This signed form must be on record before a student will be allowed access to the internet.
Teacher Rule:
I promise to try to make a positive and enthusiastic classroom atmosphere, if you promise to try your best to use good judgement, manners and politeness to allow yourself and fellow students to do their best. Violators of this general rule will receive detentions,  a call home, and if necessary adminstrative attention.

            Class Grading


90% of total points =A
80% of total points =B
70% of total points =C
60% of total points =D
NOTE: In addition to points, students who wish to earn an "A" must complete a major computer project each semester.Without a computer project the highest grade possible will be a "B"
Points can be earned in the following ways:
1. tests 2. group activities (both individual and group points are awarded) 3. quizzes 4. projects 5. homework 6. hand outs 7. computer activities 8. simulation games
Homework: frequent, including some weekends
1. reading assignments
2. hand outs
3. special assignments or projects
Make up Work:
1. students are responsible for finding out what work has been missed.
2. make up work is worth half the possible points, unless you have an excused absence.
