Introduction: This lesson will teach you how to use this website to research projects for U.S. History.
 

Open a Clarisworks document so that you can copy the questions below. Put your name, date and period at the top right hand corner of your document. Copy the question onto your document and then type your answer underneath the question.Remember, use your own words except when directions request you to copy and paste. Print your answers at the end of the lesson and hand - in to the teacher.

4.  Go to the table and click on "The Progressive Era". Scroll down until you find the link entitled The Spanish American War. Click on this link.  What was the name of the American battleship that was sunk in Havana Bay and was the immediate cause of the war.

8.Go to the table and click on search engines. Click on "find resources by subject" and list one search engine recommended by Rice University.
9.If you were a fisherman and wanted to know the latest fishing "news", which link would you click? How are the fish biting at Shaver Lake?

10. Go to the table and click on Sectionalism, be patient and scroll till you find a link that will explain the causes of the Civil War. Describe one of the causes of that great war.

11. On the Kid's Stuff page, under what topic will you find a link to information for young people who have a desire to start their own business or invest in the stock market?

12. On the Kid's Stuff page there is help under the subtitle Desktop References for selecting a research topic on an event in U.S. History, click on this link and name one topic you might be interested in studying. Copy and paste your selection on your clarisworks document.

13. If you wanted help in selecting an invidual for a biography project, where on  Mr. Horwitz's website could you get some suggestions. Once you have found a link that takes you to a list of famous people in U.S. History, select an indivual and write one interesting fact about that person.

14. Go to the link on The American Presidency. Scroll down until you find "John Hansen". What number president was he. Did George Washington support John Hansen as President?
